Chap Petersen, a Democrat, has represented Fairfax City in the General Assembly since 2008. Before that, he served on the Fairfax City Council from 1998 to 2001 and in the Virginia House of Delegates from 2002 to 2006. Petersen is a Fairfax native. He is a graduate of Williams College and the University of Virginia School of Law. He works in a private law practice.
