Altered video shows anti-Joe Biden chant during Obama speech, but that didn’t happen
If Your Time is short
- This video has been altered. In the original, Barack Obama engages with a lone heckler before the audience supportively chants “Obama.”
Former President Barack Obama was stumping for Michigan Democrats at a campaign rally in Detroit on Oct. 29 when he was interrupted by a heckler. It’s hard to hear what the heckler says, which is maybe why an altered version of this moment is spreading on social media instead.
Chants of "f--- Joe Biden" and clapping can be heard in the clip shared in a recent Instagram post, as Obama gestures and says, "hold up, hold on a minute" and "y’all up there, pay attention" to no avail.
"This is incredible, I love it," the Oct. 29 post says. "The people chant FJB and Obama can't stop it. This is what happens when the people remember they have the power!!"

In reality, Obama was talking about a lack of civility in politics when he was interrupted by what sounds like a lone heckler — not a crowd of people yelling about Biden. The audience did start to chant, however. They supportively said Obama’s name over and over.
We rate claims that the crowed chanted "f— Joe Biden" during Obama’s speech False.
